On June 18th, 2006 at approximately 1:30 am CDT a storm passing through Hill County destroys the facade of the landmark theater. The theater is housed in what was originally the 1891 Orrenbaum's Hardware store. It was converted to the "Palace Theatre" in 1926 and got it's current facade in the mid-thirties (possibly 1936). Texas State Artist George Boutwell immortalized the theater with his now famous watercolor "High Time In Hillsboro"
The theatre was converted to a twin cinema and has been closed since 2001.
